Chaplain's Corner - May 2014

The following prayers were offered to God by Chaplain Szilvasy at a Memorial Ceremony at VFW 812 recently that honored three Medal of Honor recipients who were from the El Paso area:

Our heavenly Father, we thank you for this memorial ceremony to honor Medal of Honor recipients Michael Pena, Victor Espinoza, and Jesus Duran for their self-sacrificing valor in combat at great risk to their lives. We thank you, Lord, for enabling them with the power of your Holy Spirit, to distinguish themselves with heroic acts of bravery. They put aside all concern for their personal safety, and their selfless courageous acts saved the lives of many of their friends. Their actions were in keeping with the words of Jesus who said in the Gospel of John, chapter 15, verse 13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” The heroic acts of these men stand as an inspiration for us as we strive to serve God and Country within our military community.

Our heavenly Father, we are especially thankful for this special time to show our love and respect for Michael, Victor, and Jesus by our presence, thoughts, and prayers. They will always be alive in our cherished and precious memories. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen
